2. Beaches
While this movie has become properly synonymous with the world of weepy cinema (what movie doesn’t use this as a shorthand cliché for a girl’s night in?), it’s also a superb piece of cinema. Following Barbara Hershey and Bette Middler through a long and tumultuous friendship that’s hindered by their different backgrounds and trajectories, it’s really hard not to find yourself drawn into their fiery relationship-which makes the ending all that more devastating. An ode to the power of girl love.
